Binational Border Research Laboratory for Environmental Health USA-MEX (SDSU IV, USA - UABC Mexicali, MEX).
Binational problems need to be framed as one by developing scientific knowledge in the Border. ONE in which environmental, social, and health problems are considered as a whole. On the border of California and Baja California, we can clearly see the lack of coordination in solving environmental problems that affect the health of border communities. We share rivers, oceans, air, soil, populations, and more. And conflicts are resolved independently, without considering that the damage is collective. This is the case with the Tijuana and Mexicali Rivers, which originate in Mexico and flow into the United States. These contaminated rivers are bringing health problems to our communities on the border. This Binational Research Laboratory has as its main objective the formation of "mirror" laboratories and the creation of transborder researchers from SDSU and UABC to develop binational projects with a common goal.

Investigator
Investigator, BienESTAR.
BienESTAR, derived from the Spanish word for well-being, epitomizes our commitment to fostering health equity in the Mexico-US border region. Nestled within San Diego State University, our research collaborative is dedicated to mitigating health disparities among border populations, empowering communities to flourish. At the heart of our endeavors lies Environmental and Social Transborder Action Research (ESTAR), a multidisciplinary approach that synergizies methodologies from health services research, environmental health, public health, and community-based participatory research (CBPR).
